My Dear Brothers and Sisters,
This week we encounter the story and unique relationship between a mother and her son. In the inspiring life stories of St. Monica and St. Augustine we are reminded that God is always in charge. St. Monica, known for her deep motherly faith, is firm in her beliefs, witnesses to them, and lovingly challenges her son to think differently about his way of life. St. Augustine is a quiet and steady, but foundational rock that the storms of his life could not even crack. Although, St Monica may have been discouraged, she never wavered in her ability to see within her son the saint that would impact the church. Even today, with his extraordinary reflections of scripture, daily life, and conversations, his philosophies bring abundant life to the church we love so dear.
At times we get discouraged with the choices of others, especially those who are so deeply connected to us. Like St. Monica let us not disrupt our witness to the faith because of a disappointment but rather be invigorated to witness quietly and steadily (and I would add more authentically) to it. Holding on to the beautiful hope that the fruits of that witness will become visible in the lives of others, just maybe we might be graced to experience it.
I would like to welcome our new staff members to the parish office and school. Having many transitions in parish life results in a bit of uncertainty. I have great confidence in the staff to work together for the good of our mission to inspire, console, support, and bring Christ’s presence into their respective responsibilities. I have been inspired by their dedication and service to the church, this community, and all they encounter. What a wonderful time for all of us to renew our participation in the life of our parish community.
Finally, it is time for many of our catechetical programs to begin. Help us have a fruitful year for these programs by being attentive to the registration times and dates. These programs include Roots: Pre-K - 5th Grade; Vine: 6th – 8th Grade; Ablaze: Confirmation Prep; High School Ministry (10:10). Your cooperation with timely registration will help the planning for these programs. Furthermore, extend this invitation to others so they don’t miss out on any of these formative programs.
