The Legion of Mary is a world-wide organization of Catholics, men and women, who offer their services to their pastor to aid him in performing spiritual works in the parish. Legionaries answer the call to apostleship, charitably recognizing in their neighbor someone for whom they themselves are responsible, and doing their simple part.
Active members pray and they make visits in pairs: to practicing Catholics, lapsed Catholics, and to the unevangelized, to the sick, the bereaved, to those new to the parish, to families, singles, lonely, and elderly, going as Mary would, wherever they are sent. Legionaries learn in actual practice that the work is within their power by doing the work with someone like themselves but who has already been doing it.
