The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a distinctive approach to children’s religious education, emphasizing hands-on learning and personal engagement with faith concepts. Developed over 60 years ago in Rome by Sofia Cavalletti and Gianna Gobbi, this method is deeply rooted in Montessori principles, aiming to cultivate a conscious and intimate relationship between children and God.
At Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, we are delighted to offer a Level I atrium for children aged 3 to 6 years. The atrium serves as a specially prepared environment where young learners can explore their faith through interactive materials and activities tailored to their developmental stage. Sessions are held every Monday from 3:45 PM to 5:15 PM, providing a consistent time for children to engage in this enriching experience.
The core of the CGS program for this age group centers around the Parable of the Good Shepherd, where Jesus describes Himself as the Good Shepherd who knows and calls each of His sheep by name. This narrative resonates deeply with young children, helping them understand and feel the personal love and care of Jesus.
Our dedicated catechist, Abby Cook, leads the program with a commitment to nurturing each child’s spiritual growth. For more information or to register your child, please contact Abby at abby@shofjesus.com.
We invite all families with young children to consider participating in this transformative journey, fostering a lifelong relationship with God from an early age.
